The third tournament is DOATEC's doing — a showcase for Project Omega's creation, the superhuman Genra. For Kasumi it is simply another gauntlet. Still condemned as a nukenin, she moves through the tournament fighting off wave after wave of Hajinmon assassins sent to bring her back dead or alive.

Somewhere in the tournament is Hayate — now restored, now the eighteenth leader of the Mugen Tenshin. Kasumi wants nothing more than to see him. She crosses paths first with Ayane, who surprises her: Ayane is locked on Genra, not on hunting her half-sister. She tells Kasumi she can see Hayate if she wants. A rare, wordless reprieve.

They meet. Hayate is torn — the ninja code demands her death; his blood refuses it. He makes his choice quietly: he pretends he never saw her. It is the only protection he can give.

Genra is ultimately defeated by Ayane. Kasumi plays no part in that victory. DOA3 belongs to Ayane's grief and duty. For Kasumi, the tournament is just another chapter of survival — running, fighting, staying alive long enough to hold on to whatever is left of her family.
